Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, is a singer-songwriter and Canadian American. Her catalog includes more than twenty albums. DiFranco's music has been classified as folk rock and alternative rock but also has elements of punk, funk, hip hop and jazz. Widely considered a feminist icon Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement, and was among the first musicians to launch her own label the year 1990. DiFranco was born in Buffalo New York on September 23rd of 1970, her parents Elizabeth (Ross) and Dante Americo DiFranco, who had met while attending an institution called the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is Italian heritage, while her mother is from Montreal. Ani Difrasco wrote and sang the hit song "32 Flavors". The song debuted on DiFranco's 1995 sixth album Not a Pretty Girl. It was featured on the soundtrack of 1999's Canadian romantic film Better Than Chocolate is a variation of this song. In 2013 DiFranco apologized after it was revealed that she planned to host a three-day workshop at a former Louisiana plantation for slaves. She cancelled it however many (including this paper) didn't detect remorse. DiFranco offered a second apology a few days later.
